På den ekso­tiske, mus­limske øya Lamu i Kenya – hvor biler er byt­tet ut med esler – får du seile med de lokale seilbåtene «dhower» i solnedgang, fiske og oppleve en vakker «hakuna matata»-kultur. Det blir gode møter med muslimenes hverdag – swahilikjøkken og språk.

I Elve­rum besø­ker vi eldre men­nes­ker, hjel­per unge flykt­nin­ger med inkludering i lokal­sam­fun­net, har pante­ak­sjo­ner, bistandsmaraton og støtte­brev for å nevne noen måter å fylle bistands­kon­toen på.

 

Hva lærer du på Elverum folkehøgskole?

Formålet med folkehøgskole er «danning», eller personlig utvikling. Gjennom skoleåret får du utfordre deg selv, samarbeide med andre og delta aktivt i fellesskapet.

Danning handler om å beherske f. eks. klesvask, matlaging, renhold og egen økonomi. Det handler om å ta del i demokratiet, kultur og idrett, engasjere seg frivillig, få en økologisk bevissthet, samarbeide, løse konflikter og reise.

A year without grade pressure

At Elverum folkehøgskole you will get the oportunity to develop as a person, challenge yourself and your values, and form lasting relations. All without the pressure of grades or exams. Choose a year filled with experiences, new friends, opportunities, and activities around the clock – without the pressure of grades. We offer full-year and half-year courses, and our students are on average 19 years old. Most come from Norway, but many also come from Europe and beyond.

More than 30 electives and plenty of activities

In your main subject you can focus on what you love or try something completely new! You can choose from more than 30 electives, and in addition there are student evenings, concerts, handball matches, and much more. There’s always something to join in on!

Perfect location with both nature and city nearby

The school is close to the town center, with a swimming spot and outdoor areas right outside the door. In summer you can play football and volleyball, and in winter we build a rail park in the yard for skiing and snowboarding. You’ll have access to studios, workshops, a gymnasium, fitness room, and great facilities for both creative and practical subjects.

Teachers who see you

Our teachers are passionate about their subjects and provide close follow-up. You are taken seriously, there is always someone on duty if you need help, and we do our best to make sure you thrive. We have a large and inclusive community, with students from all over Norway and many international students each year.

At the school you’ll get good meals every day, and we have long experience in accommodating gluten-free, vegetarian, and other diets.
