In Kasese, Uganda, we run a school for over 900 children, alongside farming, sports and tourism projects. You'll visit these projects and help develop them further.

Vi starter med slumbesøk i Kisinjy i hovedstaden Kampala før vi reiser vestover til Kasese – hvor vi har vårt bistandsprosjekt REEC. Der besøker vi og tar del i det daglige livet på skolene, fotballanlegget, landbruksprosjektet og turismeprosjektet i fjellene.

Det blir safari i Queen Elisabeth Nasjonalpark hvor flodhester, krokodiller, løver og leoparder ofte dukker opp. Vi drar også innom grensemarkedet mellom Kongo og Uganda som er et kaos av inntrykk.

Kenya

På den andre storturen flyr vi til Nairobi og videre ut til den eksotiske, muslimske og ikke minst bilfrie øya Lamu i Det indiske hav. Du opplever Øst-Afrika med vakker natur, ville dyr og spennende swahili-kultur! Sunset-seiling, tur til Lamu Town, Matandoni og svømmeturer med skilpadder, delfiner og vakre koraller.

Du får også bli med de lokale å lage mat, få hennamaling og teste lokalt håndverk.

Utøya

På Utøya kommer du tett på historiene til ofre og overlevende etter terrorangrepet 22.juli 2011. Du får også se den flotte måten vi har tatt tilbake øya med liv, glede og demokratiske grunnverdier.

Oslo

Vi drar til Oslo for å besøke Roseslottet. Denne utstillingen ved Frognerseteren er en hyllest til demokratiet vårt og en påminning om andre verdenskrig i Norge. Du blir også med til Nobels fredssenter og den nye storstua til Deichmanske Bibliotek.

At the very start of the school year, the whole school travels to Glitterheim in Jotunheimen national park. Here we attempt to climb Glittertind, Norway’s second-highest peak at 2452 meters. (Don’t worry, if hiking isn’t your thing, you can choose a shorter trail).

In the evenings we play cards, relax, and quickly get to know each other.

Applicants must be 18 years old when the school year begins or turn 18 during the school year.

Applicants must be 18 years old at the start of the school year or turn 18 during the school year. There are no other specific admission requirements.

Priority criteria

  • Applicants who are 18 years old at the start of the school year or turn 18 during the school year.
  • Applicants residing in Norway and former students applying for readmission.
  • Applicants residing in the EU, EEA or the United Kingdom.
  • 10% of the school's maximum capacity is reserved for international applicants.

Admission process

  1. Submit your application

    You can apply for admission from 1 October in the year before your intended start. This applies to all Norwegian folk high schools.

    There is no application deadline, but we recommend applying early, as some courses may receive more applications than there are places available.

  2. Admissions begin – offers are sent out

    You will start receiving responses to applications from 15 November. This date is the same for all Norwegian folk high schools. If you apply after 15 November, your application will be processed on a rolling basis.

  3. Accept your offer

    We need you to respond to your offer, and we naturally hope you'll accept your place! You can confirm your acceptance by email or SMS. You have 14 days to respond.

  4. Your place is confirmed

    Once you have received an offer, accepted it and paid the enrolment fee, your place at the school is secured.

A year without grade pressure

At Elverum folkehøgskole you will get the oportunity to develop as a person, challenge yourself and your values, and form lasting relations. All without the pressure of grades or exams. Choose a year filled with experiences, new friends, opportunities, and activities around the clock – without the pressure of grades. We offer full-year and half-year courses, and our students are on average 19 years old. Most come from Norway, but many also come from Europe and beyond.

More than 30 electives and plenty of activities

In your main subject you can focus on what you love or try something completely new! You can choose from more than 30 electives, and in addition there are student evenings, concerts, handball matches, and much more. There’s always something to join in on!

Perfect location with both nature and city nearby

The school is close to the town center, with a swimming spot and outdoor areas right outside the door. In summer you can play football and volleyball, and in winter we build a rail park in the yard for skiing and snowboarding. You’ll have access to studios, workshops, a gymnasium, fitness room, and great facilities for both creative and practical subjects.

Teachers who see you

Our teachers are passionate about their subjects and provide close follow-up. You are taken seriously, there is always someone on duty if you need help, and we do our best to make sure you thrive. We have a large and inclusive community, with students from all over Norway and many international students each year.
