The art class is perfect for developing your skills in art and architecture in a creative environment! You will try out a lot of different techniques throughout the year, and meet Oslo's art scene!

The arts class is perfect for those who want to improve and develop their artistic skills in company with other creative souls. Throughout the year you get to test out various techniques and mediums, thus getting solid fundaments for further studies within the arts.

Independently of whether you will work with painting, sculpture, architecture or simply have ceramics as a hobby, you nevertheless need an understanding of drawing techniques, form, space, composition, materials, idea development and problem solving. We work with architecture by building models and trying to understand what makes a room or a city a good place to be in. We use drawing in both the idea-development process, but also as an independent artistic expression. In addition, you get to work with painting, graphics, and ceramics throughout the year. Finally, along with an introduction in art and architecture history, we also discuss the role of aesthetics in our society.

Being in the capital brings many privileges! We get to know Oslo’s cultural life by visiting artists and architects, galleries, and museums, and we perform croquis drawing at the Einar Granum School of Fine Art.

Edvard Munch traveled to Berlin to find inspiration, and we are going to do the same, and make one of the world’s meccas for creativity to our own.

Here a contrast plays out between the emerging but still unknown young art scene and the biggest stars at international level. Berlin enjoys a plethora of artistic arenas, from the underground to the hippy and punk culture, from the urban to magnificent green areas all in beautiful harmony. Old architecture meets modern neighborhoods where the Berlin wall once took up space.

We explore political street art, visit markets – or perhaps you fancy settling down for a picnic on a decommissioned airport? We study old masters in the numerous museums and visit photographers and designers to see how they work. We experience cultures and foods from all over the world (Berlin has the world’s best kebab!!), in addition to fantastic flea markets. When we are not occupied by working with our own projects, we go and see all from underground project studios, well hidden from most, to fancy and more commercial galleries in remodeled factories. On the way back, we stop at the beach city Warnemünde, where we find the peace to draw and take photographs on the shore before heading back to Oslo again.

The most important thing we bring back home, in any case, is the precious and rich community whose bonds we knit thorugh all the experiences we enjoy together.

A perfect environment in which to deepen your knowledge about Norwegian language, Norwegian culture, intercultural understanding – and yourself.

You will receive 200 hours basic Norwegian course, with an option to add 50 hours for an even higher level.

In addition to the Norwegian course, you will also attend one of the school`s linjer togheter with other norwegian students. You can choose between these linjer: sports, art, music production, photo, singing and dancing.

We believe this is the ultimate combination to get you from a beginners level to a conversational level much faster, because you spend time on a activity that you love, together with other norwegian speaking students.

You are invited to attend a study trip abroad with your choosen linje.

The whole school will also go on exciting trips during the year; we will explore wonderful Nordmarka, go skiing in Hallingdal and stay at Strandheim campsite by the Oslofjord.

We strive to give every student challenges on their level, based on their background and goals. A variety of teaching methods are used, and the teacher encourages you to build awareness on what are your best ways to learn and develop.

As our school is the only folkehøgskole situated in Oslo you have a unique chance to explore the capital city of Norway and all the opportunities this city can offer.

Welcome to a year at Rønningen folkehøgskole!
