Ticket to Ride – AFRICA is an active travel line focused on Backpacking, Adventure, and Photography. Here, you’ll challenge yourself and push limits – in Norway and around the world.

BACKPACKING AFRICA

In Zimbabwe, we go on safari in Hwange National Park and experience The Big Five – lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino.
In Zambia, we visit the mighty Victoria Falls.
In South Africa, we join social projects, meet locals, and learn about apartheid, racism, and democracy. We also visit Townships, Robben Island, and the penguins at Boulders Beach.

INTERRAIL EUROPE

We also travel by Interrail through Europe. Together with your classmates, you’ll plan parts of the route and visit some of Europe’s most beautiful cities – while documenting the journey with your camera.

You’ll learn practical photography, camera techniques, and editing – both outdoors and in our photo and film studio.

Do you know the board game? Very fun and educational to play at school, but it gets even better when we jump on the train and embark on our own Ticket to Ride trip in Europe.

This trip is our first trip abroad. The aim is, among other things, to create a good community in the class, learn more about European diversity and, not least, test yourself and your travel skills. We will also focus on how we can make insightful travel documentaries - so it is important to have the camera ready!

SOUTH AFRICA, Zambia, Botswana, Zimbabwe

We’re setting out on a unique three-week backpacking adventure through Southern Africa — exploring South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Botswana. This journey offers unforgettable experiences, powerful contrasts, and memories for life.

Some stops are classic backpacker destinations, others take us far off the beaten path — staying with locals, meeting youth, and sharing authentic home-cooked meals.

In Zimbabwe, we’ll go on safari in Hwange National Park, one of Africa’s best places to see The Big Five, and visit a local tribe to learn about traditional life, crafts, music, and dance.

In Zambia, we’ll experience the majestic Victoria Falls and dive into local culture in Livingstone and Mukuni Village.

In Botswana, a riverboat safari on the Chobe River brings us close to elephants, hippos, and crocodiles in their natural habitat.

Our final stop is South Africa, where we’ll engage in social projects, join home visits, and share campfires on the beach at sunset. We’ll meet witnesses from the apartheid era who share moving stories about dignity and democracy, and visit townships, Table Mountain, and more.

Forget package holidays and Western tourists. Join us on a unique trip through four former Soviet republics!

Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan offer spectacular scenery and ways of life very different from ours. We’ll get to know people we would never otherwise have met.

  • Visit nomad families who keep horses, sheep and cows.

  • Trek through mountains, open grasslands and past beautiful lakes.

  • Sleep in a yurt, a traditional nomad tent.

  • Try pottery and make wool rugs with local craftspeople.

  • Discover places where getting there is an adventure in itself.

“Get there within three days”

You and two or three fellow students get an address and one simple instruction: “Get there within three days.” You arrange your own transport and places to stay, finding your way through unfamiliar places.

Uzbekistan
Explore Samarkand and Bukhara, with huge mosques, blue mosaics, narrow streets and lively bazaars. They almost look like film sets!

Tajikistan
Discover one of the world’s most mountainous countries, with small villages, rough dirt roads and everyday life far removed from ours.

Kyrgyzstan
Experience nomad life, sleep in a yurt, ride horses across open grasslands, see traditional eagle hunting and trek through spectacular scenery.

Kazakhstan
Explore Almaty, surrounded by towering mountains, and visit Charyn Canyon.
