Freeride-Guide-Mountaineering The ½ year course Ski and Avalanche gives us a winter of skiing, avalanche awareness training in the Alps, Canada, and North Norway.

Snow science and avalanche awareness is practiced differently around the world. Together with pro guides, you'll pick up tricks and practices through experiencing different terrain, weather, and scenarios. We'll be doing both group and solo training.

This course is a full time ½ year  training period without other school or electorials included.

There are extra costs travelling to the Alps, Canada, and project periods.

Who chooses the Ski and Avalanche course?

Hardcore ski bums, Economists....actually, regular folks just living for the ski life style. Average age is 21-25 yrs with some younger and older shredders. Mostly we are Norwegians and Swedes skiing alpine and telemark

Is this course for you?

This course is for those who burns for skiing more than average.

A whole winter skiing Norway, the Alps, and Canada

5 day French avalanche awareness course

5 day Canadien(AST2) course

Ski a lot more this winter

Work systematically skiing, snow risk culture, and collecting/evaluating information

Experiencing through guides a lifetime of info and awareness

First hand training towards a career in the steep and deep

Our expectations of you:

Proficient skier with top equipment from day 1

Previous BIG mountain experience

Pretty versed in avalanche awareness

This course involves lots of teamwork but  also high level self developement and independence

November - starter kurset i Alta med:

• helgesamling (torsdag - mandag), Alta folkehøgskole

• planlegging og toppturer slik at vi blir kjent med og uten ski på beina

 

Januar - fortsetter kurset i de Franske alper:

• Maurienne, Frankrike (maks 6 deltagere pr. gruppe).

• 5-6 dagers ski- og skredkurs med UIAGM guide og vekt på fransk tilnærming

• 3 dagers Ski og skredworkshop

• 2 uker med selvvalgt prosjekt/praksis (fjernveiledning)

 

Februar - reiser du videre til “The Canadian Rockies” og erfarer:

• 5 dagers Advanced Skilles Training Course 2 (AST 2) med canadisk ekspertise (UIAGM)

• 2 uker med selvvalgt prosjekt/praksis (fjernveiledning)

Etter et par uker fri, returnerer du til Alta i midten av mars.

 

Mars og april - toppturer i Vest-Finnmark, Nord-Troms, Lyngsalpene og 10 dager teltbasert i Finnmarksalpene, samt prosjektmuligheter der det er opp til deg hva du velger.

Mai avrunder kurset med vårskikjøring og toppturer i Finnmarksalpene. Omkranset av midnattsola, blir du utfordret til å guide under veiledning og får nyttig tilbakemeldinger under forhold de fleste undervurderer.

Alta school is perfectly located for all outdoor activities, under pine forests at the foot of mount Skoddevarre, and walking distance of the Alta river. There are lakes, climbing areas, and ski terrain. Click into skis right out the dorm door. Alta river runs north from Sautso, northern Europe's biggest river canyon. There are lush valleys, long fjords, steep peaks, and glaciers between the southern Finnmark tundra and northern Finnmark alps.

Good food and fellowship! Nothing like coming home to great food prepared by passionate cooks after outdoor activities! The dorms with shared kitchen and living spaces. This fellowship is like glue center of social interaction and lifelong friendship.

  • Main course is about 85 days, 2 to 7 days per week, mostly outdoors.
  • Electives are divided over 4 periods. You choose electives on arrival in august. With electives, you can try new activities or go deeper into things that interest you most..
  • Group activities and excursions: Get to know Alta school/area. First aid course, solidarity project, skiing, Sami seminar, Easter activities and other school excursions complete the school year.
