Welcome to an adventurous year where you get to know how to make tasty food from simple ingredients. We will use the kitchen at school and nearby areas outside when we cook.

In the course, you will get to know different food cultures and how you can be robust in your own life when it comes to cooking . Together with other foodies, you will learn to cook everything from simple dishes to exotic feasts . 

We will create and have wonderful food experiences together in different places and in different contexts: In the kitchen, on the primus and a fire outside, in the mountains, by the sea, on an island, in a boat, in the sun, in the snow, at sunrise and at sunset, and otherwise where we feel like dreaming away in the delicious world of food. We buy good ingredients and make proper food with good quality , which is healthy and, not least, tastes delicious . In early autumn and spring, we collect and grow herbs and vegetables in the school's own kitchen garden , and get to experience using our own ingredients in cooking. One of the goals is that you should be able to use the knowledge in your daily life.

Portugal is an exciting destination for foodies. The country offers a varied food culture and hospitality. We explore colorful markets, different tastes and cultures across the country.

Portugal is an exciting destination for foodies. The country offers a varied food culture and hospitality. We explore colorful markets, different tastes and cultures across the country. We will visit Porto, Lisbon, Obidos, Coimbra and the Algarve coast.

On the way there will be using both train, bus and bicycle. Along the way, we visit food markets, cook together and taste the best Portugal has to offer in terms of food, sun and culture.

Welcome to Bergen and welcome to Åsane Folk High School!

We are looking forward to embarking on a new school year and hope that you would like to join us and share new experiences with us. We are a playful and social bunch of staff who want to get you on a unique school year. Here lies the opportunity for personal and professional development, new good friendships, food experiences and lots of laughter and fun.

During the school year you will have ample opportunity to get to know Bergen, the city's unique charm, architecture and history, the cultural offerings, the academic communities You can get to Bergen in 25 minutes and here you can go to the cinema, in the ADO arena, go shopping or enjoy the atmosphere at one of the many cafés. 

On your course, you get to work on subjects and topics that you are interested in, and together with your classmates you get a great trip to a current and exciting destination. Maybe you also want to come with us to Nepal and be enthralled by the culture, people and landscape there?

You live, sleep and eat at the folk high school. 

We believe that living with your fellow students, creates an outstanding learning environment. By sharing accommodations with people who are different from you, you learn to work together and handle problems. 

School life is a mix of teaching, good meals, joint activities, leisure time and boarding school life. The great thing about folk high school life is that you always have access to your fellow students. A year at Åsane Folk High School can be the best year of your life.

Åsane Folkehøgskole does not have any courses especially for english speaking students. Still, english speaking students are welcome to apply, as long as they have a basic understanding of Norwegian language, and also are motivated to learn Norwegian by their own efforts during the school year.
