Study Chinese, Korean & Japanese and travel to Beijing, Seoul & Tokyo!

This superclass gives you the chance to learn Chinese, Korean and Japanese language!

Although the three languages are very different, they do have much in common. Korean and Japanese are not related to the Chinese language all, but they both use a high number of Chinese characters and words, much like many European languages use Latin and Greek.

Out of the three, Chinese is arguably the easiest language for Westerners to learn and the language that is most similar to Norwegian/English. It's possible to form simple sentences from the first class. Japanese and Korean are more complex and harder to learn, but they are fairly similar, so knowing one is of great help if you are trying to learn the other.

Our school collaborates with language institutes in all three countries and there is a possibility to attend a second year where you can specialize in one of the languages and spend a period abroad attending a language institute in your chosen country.

How to Apply as an International Student

If you are an international student and do not speak Norwegian, you will apply through Hello Norway. Hello Norway is our framework that provides language and cultural support for all non-Norwegian speaking students at Toten Folk High School.

To join the school, you will choose three components when you apply:

  1. Hello Norway – this is mandatory for all students who do not speak Norwegian.

  2. A Main Line (Hovedlinje A as your second choice ) – your primary focus for the year.

  3. A Themed Elective (Hovedlinje B) – an additional subject area you will explore during the school year.

Together, these three elements create a full-year program where you will learn Norwegian language and culture while taking part in your chosen field of interest.

If you have questions about the application process or need guidance choosing the right combination, we are happy to help. All foreign students must use the english application form.
