Do you dream of long trips with a rucksack on your back and nights spent in a tent? Do you want to fill your days with mastering outdoor life, in the company of good friends? Whether you are an outdoor noob or a pro, Outdoor Explore - Norway is a major that offers fantastic experiences, close to nature. This is the major for you who want to discover new aspects of yourself through wonderful nature experiences, and simply want to be good at being outside.

Versatile outdoor life

Explore. A word that contains a lot and embraces widely. The major Friluftsliv Explore does the same. In this major, we focus on a versatile outdoor lifestyle with a wide range of activities. We visit many different activities over the course of a year, and you get to explore both near and far natural areas.

Get experienced

Here you really get to test out outdoor life, summer and winter. You simply get good at being outside! Here you acquire knowledge and tricks that will make you a keen outdoorsman. Throughout the year, you will learn to be safe in nature both alone and with others, and you will get to challenge yourself in good company with the rest of your class. After this year, you will be better equipped to plan trips, and the goal is for you to feel mastery in the face of nature.

The Sunndal mountains

Duration: 5 dager

We start in the high mountains and move home towards the school in some of the most beautiful country the country has to offer. Mountain hiking, wilderness, camping, canoeing on water, river and sea. From 900 to 0 to 1000 meters and down again. 90 km over five days on a tent trip. This is a trip you will remember for a long time!

Sunndalsfjella, Eikesdal, Eira, Eresfjord, Eidsvåg, Osmarka, Reinsfjellet and Torvikbukt.

Explore vinter

Mandatory: Yes

Duration: 5 dager

Skaret - Torvikbukt, 65km with mountain skis and sledges!

We fill the sledge with goodies and all kinds of conveniences for the trip. Starts at Skaret in Molde and moves home to the school via Osmarka. A hilly winter trip in lovely surroundings where the focus is on getting good at winter outdoor activities. Bonfire is the key word on this trip!

The Fjord route

Mandatory: Yes

Price: Included in course price

95 km cabin tour

Cabin to cabin on the northern part of the famous Fjordruta. Fantastic spring tour that starts in Vinjeøra and goes west towards Kristiansund. The first part of the trip goes in the mountains on skis before we approach the coast. There, skis are replaced by mountain shoes and hiking in fantastic North Sea nature. In february, we go to Oppdal for a week in Winter Wonderland. The whole school go together, and you get to learn how to ski. You will get instruction at your level, in alpine skiing, the unique Norwegian telemark technique, snowboarding or cross country skiing - your choice. We visit Oppdal Skiing Resort, and you will get lift tickets for 5 days. This is an unique opportunity to improve your skiing technique - or learn something totally new!

International student at Nordvestlandet folkehøgskole!

As an international student at Nordvestlandet folkehøgskole you will attend to the "International course". Here you will learn the Norwegian language.

You will combine this with one of our nine "major subjects" whithin sports, outdoor life and arts. This way you will experience one year at a traditional Norwegian folk high school while learning the Norwegian language at the same time. The school has 100 students and about 10 of these are foreign students with no knowledge of the Norwegian language. These students constitute the international course.

We have much experience in hosting internationals, and strive to give you the best information in how to apply and to get here.

Nordvestlandet folkehøgskole is located in the county Møre og Romsdal which is famous for its beautiful nature and many fjords. Among them the Geiranger fjord which is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
