Travel less, experience more - short-distance outdoor life

Nordvestlandet folkehøgskole is located in the middle of the episenter for outdoor life possibilities. A short distance from the school you will find some of Norway's longest ski runs, untouched powder snow, surf beaches and fine climbing areas. This is an eldorado for outdoor activities! Instead of traveling far away, we can therefore use the time to experience more - in a short-distance and environmentally friendly way.

Many different outdoor activities

During the year, we will test many different activities, and go in depth on some. In winter, ski mountaineering is our main activity, where we explore the wonderful summits we have nearby. You will learn to sea kayak, surf, climb and plan a trip. When the year is over, you will be good at planning and carrying out many types of trips on your own. There is a good chance that you will discover new talents and find a new favorite activity that you can pursue for the rest of your life.

A unique community

Through trips, joint activities and challenges, the class quickly becomes a tight-knit group. We sleep in tents, eat meals together, and have fun while challenging ourselves with exciting activities. We support, push and help each other. Together we create good memories and friendships for life.

Basecamp surf Hoddevika

Mandatory: Yes

Price: Included in course price

Duration: 7 dager

We are going to the western tip of Norway - more specifically Stad and Hoddevika - to learn how to surf. Stad is known for being one of the best places for surfing in Norway. Here we receive thorogh training from experienced instructors, so that you learn to catch the waves.

Toppturuke i Romsdalen

Price: Included in course price

Våren er kanskje den fineste tida for toppturer på ski. Hvis vær og forhold tillater det er målet vårt å gå en variant av Høgruta i Romsdalen. Det er en flott tur i majestetisk terreng, hvor vi sover på ubetjente DNT-hytter og går toppturer på ski rett fra hyttedøra. Solkrem og solbriller er påbudt på denne turen!

Vinter-Basecamp

Mandatory: Yes

Price: Included in course price

Duration: 7 dager

Dette blir en skikkelig vinterfriluftsuke. Vi går med lett sekk, fyller pulken og går innover i fjellet. Vi etablerer en god basecamp og går toppturer herfra. Camprutinene kommer på plass og kveldene nytes med kosefyring og kortspill i teltet.

In february, we go to Oppdal for a week in Winter Wonderland. The whole school go together, and you get to learn how to ski. You will get instruction at your level, in alpine skiing, the unique Norwegian telemark technique, snowboarding or cross country skiing - your choice. We visit Oppdal Skiing Resort, and you will get lift tickets for 5 days. This is an unique opportunity to improve your skiing technique - or learn something totally new!

International student at Nordvestlandet folkehøgskole!

As an international student at Nordvestlandet folkehøgskole you will attend to the "International course". Here you will learn the Norwegian language.

You will combine this with one of our nine "major subjects" whithin sports, outdoor life and arts. This way you will experience one year at a traditional Norwegian folk high school while learning the Norwegian language at the same time. The school has 100 students and about 10 of these are foreign students with no knowledge of the Norwegian language. These students constitute the international course.

We have much experience in hosting internationals, and strive to give you the best information in how to apply and to get here.

Nordvestlandet folkehøgskole is located in the county Møre og Romsdal which is famous for its beautiful nature and many fjords. Among them the Geiranger fjord which is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
