Asia Unlocked takes you up close to the culture, language and food of China and Japan, combined with travel, experiences and friendships for life.

We unlock Asia, learn languages and experience culture from the inside! Asia Unlocked gives you a unique encounter with China and Japan, two of the world’s most exciting countries. The main focus is on China, with Chinese language, culture and history. You’ll also learn Japanese and get to know Japan.

Throughout the year you’ll learn about history, philosophy and society, and how tradition and modern life are woven together in everyday life. You’ll taste your way through dumplings, ramen and sushi, try your hand at calligraphy and cook Asian food, always connected to the culture you’ll meet on the trip. Every now and then, we head out on mountain hikes in the Sunnmøre Alps.

The highlight is the study trip in February–March: four weeks in China and Japan. You can walk on the Great Wall, see pandas, visit the Forbidden City in Beijing and climb a beautiful mountain in southern China. In Japan, you’ll experience Tokyo, Kyoto and the areas around them. We visit temples, ride bullet trains, taste local food and meet people who will give you a whole new perspective on the world.

Asia Unlocked is for you if you want to learn, travel and experience with all your senses open. You’ll gain new knowledge, powerful impressions and memories for life.

Of course, at a school in the centre of Ørsta, surrounded by the proud Sunnmøre Alps, we’ll also get out and experience the stunning landscape. We’ll go hiking, and the plan is for the class to spend a night together in a cabin nearby.

Opplev Asia på ekte – ikke bare som turist

Drømmer du om å reise til Asia og oppleve noe helt annet enn vanlige turister? På Asia Unlocked drar du sammen med lærere som har bodd i både Kina og Japan, og som kjenner kulturen fra innsiden. Det gir deg unike opplevelser og historier du ellers aldri ville fått.

En reise du aldri glemmer

Studieturen varer i 4 -5 uker, og tar deg tett på både Kina og Japan. Ingen tur er helt lik, men du kan være sikker på at den blir full av kontraster, opplevelser og nye perspektiver.

I Kina får du oppleve alt fra storbykaos i Beijing og Shanghai til små landsbyer og skjulte naturperler. Vi besøker Den kinesiske mur, Den forbudte by og Chengdu – hjembyen til pandaen. Et av høydepunktene er dagene på Håpskolen, der du blir kjent med barna og får minner for livet.

I Japan reiser vi når kirsebærtrærne blomstrer. Kyoto er basen vår, med utflukter til historiske Nara og andre idylliske byer. Og selvfølgelig: Tokyo – verdens største metropol, hvor det ultramoderne møter tradisjonene på hver eneste gate.

Mer enn sightseeing

Dette er ikke bare en tur med fantastiske steder å krysse av på lista. Du får en dypere forståelse av folk, kultur og samfunn – hvordan mennesker lever, hva som former dem, og hvordan gamle tradisjoner lever side om side med det nye.

At Møre folkehøgskule, travel is part of the school year, and the study trips are included in the course price.

Shared school trip: Every October–November, the whole school travels together to a warmer country for one week. Students from all courses get to know each other across classes, and the trip is an important part of building one community. All full-year and autumn students join this trip.

Course study trip: In February–March, each course goes on its own long study trip of 3–4 weeks to Asia, to Bali, Thailand, Japan or China. This trip is for full-year and spring students.

We travel with purpose. Students help plan the trips, and we learn about the places we visit, meet local people and reflect on how tourism affects local communities and the environment.

Første uke etter studiestart reiser vi 3 dager til Standalshytta midt i de fantastiske Sunnmørsalpene. Her blir vi kjent med oss selve, hverandre og området vi skal være i det kommende året!

Sol, samhold og saltvann – ei uke du aldri glemmer

Når høsten senker seg over Sunnmørsalpane, gjør vi det eneste riktige: vi reiser sørover! Hele Møre folkehøgskule tar turen til varmen – kanskje til Italia, kanskje til en av Kanariøyene – for ei uke med sol, fellesskap og ny energi. I 2026 går turen til Fuerteventura. Reisemål for 2027 blir bestemt rett etter nyttår!

Se for deg å starte dagen barbeint i sanden, med lyden av bølger i bakgrunnen. Noen hiver seg på surfekurs, andre chiller på stranda eller blir med på tur til lokale markeder og små fjellandsbyer. Om kvelden samles vi til god mat, latter og historier – og du blir kjent med folk fra andre linjer på en helt ny måte.

Dette er uka der skuldrene senkes, sola tar tak i smilet ditt, og du får puste litt ekstra før vinteren. Du drar hjem med varme i kroppen, nye venner og minner som varer lenge etter at brunfargen har forsvunnet.

Vi har flere studieturer i Norge! Og da drar vi dit det er best forhold for sykkel, snø og surf! Feks til fuglefjellet og fyret på Runde, Hoddevika for surfing og Stranda eller Bjorli for å stå på ski!
