Learn Norwegian! In collaboration with Norway's most followed Norwegian teacher online – Norsklærer Karense and NoTe.no – Solbakken Folk High School are proud to welcome you to a unique year

Do you want to learn Norwegian and become better acquainted with Norwegian culture and nature in an inspiring professional and social setting? Do you want conversational training, close follow-up, and having to speak Norwegian every day? Spend a year in quiet, rural surroundings at idyllic Solbakken Folk High School, only an hour from Oslo, and give yourself room and time to learn Norwegian well!

Together with a teacher and a small group of students, you will receive adapted Norwegian lessons. Together with a dedicated teacher, who accompanies you towards your goal, you will have four hours of language lessons per day. If you want to work towards an exam  level B1 or B2 – we will help you along the way. Our teacher uses different teaching methods specially adapted to learn Norwegian in a creative way.

As a student in our Norwegian class, you do not just sit quietly in a classroom. Do you want to look for trolls and walk deep into to Norwegian forests, learn about Norwegian history at one of Norway's most important fortresses, experience real old farm life, learn how to make Norwegian waffles, see one of the world's most famous works of art: The Scream, and become better acquainted with Norwegian theatre, Ibsen and Vikings?

We take you to Finnskogen, Kongsvinger, Odalstunet, Oslo and the Ibsen Museum and the Munch Museum, the National Theatre, the Castle and much more – everything within less than an hour away from our school.

For oss på Solbakken er det viktig at elevene opplever mye ulik kunst og kultur! I slutten av skoleåret reiser derfor alle elevene på studietur til en europeisk teaterhovedstad! I løpet av en liten uke ser vi teater- , musikkteater- og danseforestillinger, går på museum, og blir bedre kjent med kulturlivet i den aktuelle byen.

Vi spiser sammen på ulike restauranter og du får også litt tid til å bli kjent med byen på egen hånd.

Alle linjene i førsteklasse reiser sammen. 2.klasse har som regel en egen tur.

Solbakken folkehogskole is a small folk high school with room for approx. 60 students. It´s size gives us the opportunity to see each student, with close personal and stage-specific follow-up.

Solbakken Folk High School has three divisions: Acting, Musical, and Writing. All divisions are based on Solbakken´s more than 30 years of experience of teacing in the performing arts; acting technique, singing, dance, theater, musical theater, monologue / audition technique, vocal use, text writing, yoga, improvisation, film and directing.

You will get an overall insight into stage technical subjects, often in relation to production and projects. We stimulate local cultural work and are active participants in local community events.

Our main study trip goes to a theater capital in Europe. Apart from this, we make theater visits to Sweden, Oslo and Kongsvinger.

We have a 2nd year option, primarily those who have finished the first year at Solbakken, and who want further specialization in acting. Second Class students produces performances, have private lessons in singing and speaking, and are actors in a professional short film. The 2nd is a very intensive year, with long school days.
