This is our programme for explorer spirits who desire a meaningful, active, creative year. It combines travelling and sea kayaking, ocean clean-up, and craftsmanship in breathtaking nature.

The program's three subjects go hand in hand and make for an exciting year that challenges you both physically and mentally. There is great variation in activities, and the course will be planned in collaboration between teacher and pupils.

SEA KAYAK: Practice outdoor life on nature's terms by leaving no trace and cleaning the ocean along the way. Discover hidden beaches by sea kayak, sleep under the stars and experience northern lights in the middle of the Norwegian sea. Get to know yourself amidst porpoises, whales, and sea eagles, or on the hunt for the next wave.

CRAFTINGFind your creative voice! We will have periods focusing on crafting where you can discover and play with varied materials to create useful objects and works of art.

ISLAND LIFE: Get to know projects and actions within the scope of nature conservation, sustainable use of resources and ecotourism. Here, the focus lies on contributing to specific projects and finding out what is needed for them to succeed.

Statsraad Lehmkuhl - Shetland

Pris: 9 000

Eventyrlysten??

The Øyrekka archipelago is for many a unique and undiscovered place. We will make full use of the area and all it has to offer, from Sula in the south to Halten in the north. We will take a dive in to the local history and culture.

  • Sula – a known gathering point for artists and creative people both local and foreign. The island has both restaurant and pub, and Sula glamping will soon open.
  • Bogøya – a picturesque gem, known for the Supen Pøbb eatery, serving the world’s greatest fish and chips. The island is also home to Handelshuset Skatvold – a general store fully restored to its original form from the previous century.
  • Sørburøya – one of the most remote inhabited places of Norwegian coast.
  • Sauøya – now abandoned, but with a working chapel, store, and Fishmonger. Her we can experience what the coastal communities would have looked like a few decades ago.
  • Halten – the northernmost of the old fishing settlements. Today a protected and preserved cultural heritage site, giving access to centuries of history.
  • Vingleia lighthouse – placed on one of the outermost islets on the edge of the open ocean, the former lighthouse keeper's residence can house 12 people and will be used for overnight trips throughout the year.
  • The historical Trøndelag region: the ting mound in Frosta, the Medieval farm of Stiklastadir, Norway’s biggest grave mound at Leka – an enormous monument to the old sea kings, The Sverresborg museum in Trondheim and the historical Nidaros.

The school is a so-called liberal folk high school, which means we do not base our values on a particular faith or belief, but on equality and respect for the individual’s integrity. Until our brand new campus is built, we hire a huge houseboat / floating hotel as our base. The floating hotel will contain everything you need; classroom, cafeteria, kitchen, doubleroom (you share room with a roommate), office for the employees and living rooms.

Our courses from August 2023 are listed below:
