Ready to touch some grass? A new program for those who want to disconnect from stress, and reconnect with nature. Experience the outdoors in Northern Norway at a relaxed pace with magnificent views!

Pust – Find calm, experience nature and feel alive

Pust ("breathe") is about finding tranquility, building genuine community, and experiencing nature with all your senses. We don’t rush from peak to peak. We walk slowly enough to notice the light filtering through the trees, the sounds around the campfire, and the silence found only in the outdoors.

Explore spectacular nature

We focus on what matters most: nature, the people around us, and ourselves. Together, we create a unique hiking community filled with a sense of achievement, friendship, and memories that last long after the school year ends.

Experience well-known destinations of the North

We don’t travel abroad; instead, we make the most of our local area. In this way, we protect the climate and the environment while learning to appreciate the amazing things right in our own backyard. Look forward to visiting famous destinations such as:

Now and then, we put away our screens. A digital break creates space for being present, helps both body and mind recover, and reminds us how good it feels to be right here—outdoors. It opens the door to meaningful conversations and experiences that don’t need to be documented to be remembered.

Take a breath.

Look to the north.

The adventure begins here.

Courses & Certifications

We sometimes hold courses! Throughout the year, we may opportunities to organize the boating license and hunter's exam, and the sea kayak proficiency course (Våttkort). Please note that these might conflict with activities in your program.

Traditional crafts

Here you can learn to knit, sew, and do handicrafts! For example, we have tried Sámi duodji and making felted camp shoes, repaired our gear, and so on. We love making things we can use on our outdoor trips.

Fitness

In the area, we have fantastic mountain areas for running and training! In addition, we have a gym that is perfect for strength workouts or yoga, as well as both indoor and outdoor volleyball courts.

Drama

Here, you can challenge yourself with improv, revue, and drama. We focus on being creative and having fun!

Outdoors +

Can’t get enough of the outdoors? If you’d like to join in on ice fishing, summit tours, skiing, hiking, or dog sledding, this elective is for you! We plan our activities based on the weather conditions, and prefer to have lunch outdoors.

Malangen Folk High School is beautifully situated between the sea and mountains.

We have nature right outside the door, and around us we have some of Northern Norway's largest areas of raw wilderness.  Specializing in the arctic outdoors, we want to give our students an experience-filled year. Our programs are unique, and we focus on joy, courage and respect.

We have our own dog kennel which is run by the students, our own sailing boat Klara and full packing for the wildest wilderness trips. We provide all common equipment. You only need your own personal equipment and clothing.

The main building is surrounded by a large outdoor area with the lake, stables, dog kennel, running yard - and close by is a bonfire and boathouse on the shore. You can fill your time with wonderful experiences such as deep-sea fishing, hunting, berry picking, hiking and overnight stays in our local area. We give you unique experiences through the changing seasons, and encourage the student to be outside a lot.

You will live in a boarding house with students from the various classes, and we will eat breakfast, dinner and supper together in the dining hall in the main building. Here you can also be social together, relax with knitting, music, sit by the fireplace or disappear into an exciting wilderness book.

We build up your outdoor skills, and together with you we help you realize your potential. You get to know yourself, and will experience mastery in the face of nature.  Here we quickly get to know each other well and trust each other.

We offer great nature experiences in the heart of Troms! There are many possibilities here! The small school with big opportunities!
