Spend the spring creating! Work hands-on with ceramics, silver, textiles and redesign, learn new techniques and develop your own creative style.

Do you love working with your hands? On Arts & Crafts, you learn practical techniques and create finished products from start to finish.

Ceramics
Learn wheel throwing, hand-building, glazing and firing. Create cups, bowls and serving dishes, or explore more sculptural and personal designs.

Silver and jewellery
Learn techniques such as sawing, filing, soldering and polishing, and create your own rings, necklaces, earrings and other unique pieces.

Textiles and redesign
Learn to use a sewing machine, make and repair clothes, and give old textiles new life. You can also explore embroidery, crochet and fabric painting.

Your own project
You’ll have time to develop a larger project of your choice. This could be a ceramic collection, a traditional outfit or your own jewellery series. You’ll also learn how to document and present your work through photography, text and exhibitions.

During the spring, the course travels to New York for inspiration from creative environments, design, art and crafts.

Life at Bakketun also includes trips, activities and shared experiences with students from across the school.

New York, spring: Experience one of the world’s most creative and culturally diverse cities, where people, traditions and ideas from around the globe come together.

During the trip, we explore arts and crafts, fashion, design, exhibitions, culture and city life. We also experience Broadway, with world-famous productions and the opportunity to see how large-scale performances come to life both on stage and behind the scenes.

New York is a major centre for creativity and education, and you may also get the chance to explore possible study opportunities in the city.

From iconic yellow taxis and famous neighbourhoods to museums, shops, performances and inspiring creative environments, the trip offers plenty to discover.

It is a chance to gain new inspiration, experience different perspectives and create unforgettable memories together with your classmates.

The group trip to Spain is one of the highlights at the beginning of the school year – and the perfect way to get to know your fellow students and teachers. For the 2025–2026 school year, we’re heading to sunny Andalusia, with our base near the coastal town of Rota.

During the trip, you’ll have the chance to try surfing, play frisbee golf, join bike rides, and relax with the group on the beach. We’ll also visit exciting places like the historic city of Seville and the unique area of Gibraltar – known for its monkeys, British culture, and stunning views.

This trip is just as much about building community as it is about exploring new places. You’ll connect with people from different lines and have time to settle into what could become one of the best years of your life. All meals and activities are included in the tuition – you just need some pocket money for the extras.

The course is open to students aged 16 and above, normally up to 26.

Admission requirements

The course has no specific admission requirements. Offers of admission are made following an assessment based on the school’s overall educational approach. We aim to work together with our students to foster a positive school environment, so your motivation to contribute both academically and socially is important. We therefore place great emphasis on what you write about yourself and your reasons for wanting to attend Bakketun.

Furthermore, we look for the ability to work both independently and collaboratively, alongside an interest in your own personal growth and that of others.

Priority criteria

When there are many applicants, the school places emphasis on factors such as motivation, interest in the school’s study programmes and subjects, and the composition of the applicant group.

You apply using the school's application form. Applications are processed on a rolling basis, and you will receive a response via email once your application has been processed.
