Work creatively along with other ambitious students – on scene and in the studio. You get to develop as a musician by working individually and in a team in live concerts and studio projects.

In our Band class, musicians come together to give form to sensational experiences. Here you can live out your musical dream and ambitions while at the same time learn to hone your skills with the help your classmates.

We offer a practical, hands-on approach to music, of which concert projects and studio hours make out a significant part. But there is also a theoretical side. As in all the musical classes in the school, we offer courses in rhythm training, music theory, exposition techniques, and general field knowledge, in addition to helping you with any admission exam or test that you are planning on taking in the course of the year.

Who is this class suitable for?
This class is for those who are not new beginners and love music, for those who can work individually just as good as in teams. It is aimed for those who have some degree of ambition about what they want to achieve here.

This class requires a certain level of instrumental and musical ability, and we therefore ask you to send us a demo of yourself. It can be an audio tape or a live recording. You will receive more information about this in the admission process.

Brazil

Throughout many years, Rønningen has brought its sports classes to Brazil for their study trip. This trip, which will bring us to Niteroi and Rio de Janeiro, consists of good doses of both sport and culture.

In Rio we visit the famous Christ the Redeemer statue and play many beach sports, that include beach volley, foot volley, sand football and spikeball. All this on some of the world’s most famous beaches: Copacabana and Ipanema. Here you will also find good surfing conditions. Our partner, Rio de Janeiro YMCA, boasts sporting facilities where we will play against Brazilian teams in different sports.

We will also visit favelas and play with their local youth teams. Here you will receive insights in the big differences that people experience living in Brazil, which will broaden your understanding of the world today.

It is a trip that you will never forget!

Rønningen offers an alternative to the trip abroad to all its students: a study trip in Oslo! This is a tuition-free alternative for those students that do not come along in the travels abroad.

Japan

Bli med til Japan – et land som kombinerer futuristiske storbyer med eldgamle tradisjoner. Sammen får vi oppleve alt fra blinkende neonlys og streetfood i Tokyo til fredfulle templer og skibakker i Kyoto. Du vil lære om japansk kultur, historie og hverdagsliv, og oppdage hvordan teknologi og tradisjon lever side om side i et samfunn som skiller seg stort fra vårt eget.

Jordan

Duration: 12 dager

Studieturen til Jordan gir deg sterke møter og store opplevelser. Du får møte unge palestinere og lære om hvordan konflikten påvirker deres hverdag. Og vi vil reflektere sammen om veier mot en mer rettferdig fred. Det blir også  tid til å oppleve Jordans rike kultur og natur – fra historiske steder og lokal gjestfrihet til eventyr i ørkenen og snorkling i Rødehavet.

Sør-Afrika

Duration: 2 uker

Sør-Afrika er et land med rik kultur, fantastisk natur og en historie som har formet hele verden. Denne studieturen tar oss til Soweto, Johannesburg, Pretoria og Cape Town, og gir deg som elev en unik mulighet til å oppleve landet på nært hold. 

Vi kjenner både landet og mennesker som bor der godt,  derfor vil du som elev få en helt spesiell opplevelse: Du får ikke bare se landet som turist, men oppleve Sør-Afrika fra innsiden - gjennom samtaler og møter med lokale ungdommer, samarbeidspartnere og lokalsamfunn. 

Oslove

Kom under huden på Norges hovedstad og gjør Oslo til ditt. Du blir kjent med de skjulte perlene og spennende stedene du ikke rekker over på en vanlig oslotur. Du får kjent på adrenalin og ettertanke og får en større forståelse for denne sammensatte og mangfoldige byen. Vi starter litt seinere på dagen slik at du har tid til egne prosjekter og egen trening.

A perfect environment in which to deepen your knowledge about Norwegian language, Norwegian culture, intercultural understanding – and yourself. 

As an international student, you must choose between two options: 

Option 1:
Norwegian Language and Culture is your main course during the whole schoolyear. 
We strive to give every student challenges on their level, based on their background and goals. A variety og teaching methods are used, and the teacher encourages you to build awareness on what are your best ways to learn and develop. We visit cultural sites, museums, organizations etc. to gain a wider insight into Norway`s history and current society and way of life. 

Option 2: 
Your main course is based on your field of interest (music, art, sports, creative subjects). In this course you will study together with Norwegan peers - in Norwegian. As a complimentary subject you choose Norwegian for foreigners. This combination is the best way to get you from a beginners level fast as spending time on an activity you love and doing so among native speakers makes learning the language fun and easy.

You are invited to attend a study trip abroad or choose to attend our free alternative: OSLOVE. As our school is the only folkehøgskole situated in Oslo you have a unique chance to explore the capital city of Norway and all the opportunities this city can offer.

The whole school will also go on exciting trips during the year; we will explore wonderful Nordmarka, go skiing in Hallingdal and stay at Strandheim campsite by the Oslofjord.
