    Spend a year exploring the Norwegian fjords and mountains while becoming part of a welcoming community. Learn Norwegian through everyday life, outdoor adventures, music and shared experiences.

    Live Norway! Norway has a lot to offer but it is more than breathtaking landscapes. It`s about sharing meals after a hike, spending time by the fjord,singing together, learning new skills and becoming part of a community. At Bergen Folk High School, you`ll experience everyday life in Western Norway while developing your language skills in nature and meaningful ways. A folk high school year is about learning together. The more you engage, the more you will get out of your experience.

    You`ll spend your year exploring fjors and mountains, learning about Norwegian traditions, enjoying outdoor adventures and discovering what makes this country special - not as a tourist, but as somone who lives here. 

    Living close to the city means you will experience both the peace of nature and the energy of urban life. Whether we are exploring the historic harbour,theatre, enjoying live music or discovering nice cafès, Bergen becomes an extension of our classrom.

    Explore Sri Lanka er et valgfag for deg som er nysgjerrig på verden, liker å møte mennesker og ønsker å lære gjennom opplevelser. Her kombinerer vi reiseglede, kulturmøter, natur og internasjonalt engasjement – i samarbeid med bistandsorganisasjonen FORUT.

    Før avreise vil du få en grundig forberedelse som gir deg både kunnskap og trygghet før møtet med Sri Lanka. Vi jobber med kulturforståelse og landets historie, religion og samfunn, samt bærekraft, globale utfordringer og utviklingsarbeid. Du blir også kjent med FORUT og deres arbeid i Sri Lanka, og vi legger vekt på reisetrening, forventninger og refleksjon rundt det å reise i en annen kulturell kontekst.

    Målet er å være godt forberedt, både praktisk og mentalt, slik at du får størst mulig utbytte av opplevelsene. I tillegg til unike reiseinntrykk ønsker vi gjennom forarbeidet å styrke forståelsen for andre samfunn og levesett, utvikle kulturforståelse og gi rom for personlig refleksjon og utvikling.

    Ansvarlig for opplegget og undervisningen er vår ansatt Angela Vågenes, som har reist med elever til Sri Lanka tidligere år.

    Reiseopplegget krever at du som elev er i normalt god fysisk form, er tilpasningsdyktig og lar deg fasinere av å møte det ukjente i form av nye mennesker, steder og utfordringer.

    A few weeks after start-up, the whole school go on the most beautiful adventure of the autumn – the joint trip to Voss. Here in Norway's adrenaline capital, you will get elements of culture, history, nature, adrenaline and competition.

    On the trip you will have the opportunity to make new acquaintances, across who you live with at the boarding school or on your line. We arrange environmentally friendly activities where everyone has the opportunity to participate on their own terms.

    Welcome to Bergen and welcome to Bergen folkehøgskole!

    We are looking forward to embarking on a new school year and hope that you would like to join us and share new experiences with us. We are a playful and social bunch of staff who want to get you on a unique school year. Here lies the opportunity for personal and professional development, new good friendships, food experiences and lots of laughter and fun.

    During the school year you will have the opportunity to get to know Bergen, the city's unique charm, architecture and history, the cultural offerings and the academic communities. You can get to Bergen in 25 minutes and here you can go to the cinema, to the ADO arena, go shopping or enjoy the atmosphere at one of the many cafés. 

    On your course, you get to work on subjects and topics that you are interested in, and together with your classmates you get a great trip to a relevant and exciting destination. Maybe you also want to come with us to Nepal and be enthrilled by the culture, people and landscape there?

    You live, sleep and eat at the folk high school. 

    We believe that living with your fellow students, creates an outstanding learning environment. By sharing accommodations with people who are different from you, you learn to work together and handle problems.

    School life is a mix of teaching, good meals, joint activities, leisure time and boarding school life. The great thing about folk high school life is that you always have access to your fellow students. A year at Åsane folk high school can be the best year of your life.

    Bergen folkehøgskole does not have any courses especially for english speaking students. Still, english speaking students are welcome to apply, as long as they have a basic understanding of Norwegian language, and also are motivated to learn Norwegian by their own efforts during the school year.
