Ål Folk High School is heading to the United States in the 2026–2027 school year! On this trip, we will visit New York and Washington, D.C. The highlight is Gallaudet University — the world’s only university for the Deaf!

This is a unique opportunity to experience American culture, big-city life, and American Sign Language. We will explore and learn about the living conditions of Deaf people in the U.S., the rights they have, and how the situation has developed in recent years. This will be an unforgettable journey filled with new experiences, friendships, and lifelong memories. Join us for a trip that deepens your understanding of Deaf culture across continents!

Ål Folk High School offers full-year courses for deaf and hearing signers from all over the world! Our students comes from a wide range of countries from all five continents! We have had students from Madagascar, Iran, India, Chile, Venezuela, Italy, Spain, Denmark, Australia, the USA and many other countries. The only Folk High School for deaf people in Norway, the Ål folkehøyskole and Conference Center for Deaf People is a national resource center in the field of Sign Language and Deaf Studies.
