Learn the Norwegian language and experience the nature, culture and adventure of Norway´s famous sights. We travel to Kristiansand, Stavanger, Preikestolen, Lindesnes, Jotunheimen, Copenhagen and more

Our goal is for you to learn to speak and understand basic Norwegian. You will learn about Norwegian culture, history, geography and society through exhibitions and by travelling and experiencing Norway first hand. This year will be a ten months long adventure.

Stu­dents in the Nor­we­gian course will have plenty of prac­tice when lear­ning the lan­guage, being sub­mer­ged in a «mini» Nor­we­gian society. They will inte­ract around the clock with other Nor­we­gian stu­dents. There are also many acti­vities wit­hin the school year plan­ned and held by the stu­dents.

Rafting in Sjoa

Mandatory: Yes

Sjoa offers wonderful rafting experiences. You will receive paddling and safety instructions, before we tackle scenic river sections such as the "Golf Stream" and "the canyon". The river will throw you off the raft if you're not alert or work as a team!

South West Norway

We visit Norways largest Stave church in Heddal, drive cross the country and hike up to Preikestolen, the Pulpit mountain, where we get the most amazing wiew. We explore Stavanger town and learn about Norways oil history at Norwegian Oil museum. We catch crabs and are invited to a farm in Egersund where we are served fresh crabs. We visit Lindesnes light house and artist Mona Svaland in Mandal. Last stop on this trip is Kristiansand, where we stay for two nights in a cabin on an island right outside Kristiansand. We get to  see the Norwegian preditors in Kristiansand dyrepark,( a zoo) we go fishing for makrell and visit Arkivet, where we learn about the war history of Kristiansand.

Copenhagen

We explore the capital city of Denmark in the beginning of December when the city is all dresses up for Christmas. We board the sightseeing canal boat and get a waterfront tour of the city. We visit Rosenborg castle where we learn about its history and get to see the royal family jewels. We climb the outdoor staircase to the top of the tower of "Vor Frelsers Kirke" where we get a fantastic view of the city. A walk in Christiania, the bohemian freetown, is also exiting and special. And of course, we can not visit Copenhagen without experiencing the Christmas decorated Tivoli, where we enjoy all the different rides.

At the folk high school, you can study almost anything – from arts to extreme sports, and everything in-between. The goal is what’s in Norwegian called "danning". A good translation might be "formation".

You will get the oportunity to develop, challenge yourself and your values, and form lasting relations. All without the pressure of grades or exams.

We offer full-year courses, half-year course fall and half-year course spring, and our students average at the age of 19. The majority comes from Nor­way, but many others come from Europe and beyond.
