Are you curious about crafts, handicrafts, and folk art? Do you want to learn from skilled professionals, but also explore your own creativity? Then this is the program for you!
Here at StUF, we are passionate about keeping traditional craft techniques alive. There is little that compares to the joy of learning new techniques and seeing a project slowly but surely come to life. At the same time, there is a unique feeling in following a material from raw material to a finished product that can be used and enjoyed. In a world dominated by a throwaway culture, it is invaluable to have the skills needed to create something durable.
In the traditional craft program, we dive into a variety of techniques, such as wool spinning, different types of weaving, knitting traditions, natural tanning, leatherwork, and stone carving. These are techniques that have played an important role in folk art and have their roots back in ancient Egypt, antiquity, and the Nordic Viking Age.
In the traditional craft program, we delve into a variety of techniques, including:
- Wool spinning
- Plant dyeing
- Frame weaving, card weaving, and table weaving
- Lacework and needle lace
- Tanning and processing animal and fish skins
- Leatherwork
- Stone carving and engravings in soapstone
Additionally, you will have the opportunity to acquire knowledge about materials such as wool, leather, wood, and stone. You will also be given an introduction to the concept of folk-art.
You will be challenged to think creatively and given the opportunity to explore and work independently, as well as together with others. The lessons will be organized as courses, from which we can offer you course certificates.
