Do you want to live in the middle of one of the country's best hunting grounds?

At Pasvik Folkehøgskole, the students hunt grouse, ptarmigan, foxes, ducks and muskrat every two kilometers around the school. 

Do you want to experience the best of Scandinavian hunting, whether the dream is the big elk bull or wild boar hunting in southern Sweden? If you don't have a hunting license yet, you can obtain it at the start of the school year. Over the course of the school year you will become a competent hunter and learn everything there's to know.

You will experience this:

Your teacher is an experienced competitive shooter and shooting instructor. The experience you gain here will benefit you throughout your hunting life. The year of 100% Hunting gives you knowledge, experience and skills when it comes to hunting, shooting, game knowledge and much more.

We place great emphasis on learning about game from mountains, forests and lakes. Taking care of the game also means becoming better acquainted with various food traditions, such as smoking and drying meat, and also the preparation of hides and furs.

Moose hunt in Tana

Mandatory: Yes

At the start of the elk hunting season we go to Tana, an area well known for its many moose. Our record was 19 sightsings of moose in a single day. There are good chances for the class of shooting a moose, the biggest game there is in Norway.

Hare hunting and deep sea fishing on Søroya

Mandatory: Yes

At the end of February we travel to Sørøya, an island with one of Norway's densest hare populations. Over the course of a week we usually have many chances to shoot hare with either shotgun or rifle. If the weather permits, we also try out deep sea fishing. Outside of Sørøya, there are very good opportunities to catch big cod with fishing rods.

Seljakt

Vi drar til Finnmarkskysten på seljakt. Stor spenning i skjærgården når steinkobber eller havert viser seg. Vi tar vare på skinn og kjøtt, og lager nydelig selmiddag. 

Wild boar and deer hunting in Sweden

Mandatory: Yes

Sweden is a unique hunting location where you can experience many different forms of hunting and of exciting game species. During our week there we usually manage to shoot wild boars and deer.

Hunting and fishing along the coast and mountains

Late in the fall we take the time for a short week tour along the coastal landscape in the east of Finnmark, near the border to Russia and the Kola Peninsula. Here big trout await you, the sea offers adventurous fishing and on the shoreline grouses sit waiting for you.

Small game hunting in Pasvik

Mandatory: Yes

Øvre Pasvik offers adventurous small game hunting in primeval forests. Large birds, black grouse, hazel grouse, willow grouse and hares live side by side in this outpost of the Russian taiga.

Duck hunting along the Pasvik River

Mandatory: Yes

In Pasvik's species-rich wetlands, we use decoy ducks to attract ducks during the evening migration. We also go sneak hunting along the river bank by canoe and on foot. Here you get to see a lot of birds and learn about different species, shooting and hunting techniques in practice.

Shooting camp in Neiden

A raw opportunity to develop as a rifle and shotgun shooter: You will be trained by a skilled shooting instructor and have a well-stocked ammo warehouse at your disposal.

Vi ønsker med våre fellesturer å styrke skolens felleskap, gjennom å dele fine natur- og reiseopplevelser. Et viktig poeng er også å bli kjent i våre nærområder slik at du lærer litt om hvordan det er å leve i Finnmark og i Barentsregionen, nære naturen og i en region hvor ulike kulturer smelter sammen. 

Finnmarksløpet: Europe's longest dog-sled race

As a student at Pasvik Folkehøgskole, you play a central role in Europe's longest and tougthest sled dog race, the Finnmarksløpet. The whole school participates in this event. We operate the checkpoints in Neiden and Øvre Pasvik, where the mushers come to rest with their dogs. You'll get to work with many of the world's best dog handlers and experience the endurance of the Alaskan huskies.

Autumn-trip

Mandatory: Yes

This trip is for the whole school. You can choose from three alternatives: 

  • Canooing: We padle down the pasvik river. Good chance for fishing big trout and pike. We sleep in lavvu or under open sky. 
  • From cabin to cabin: We hike throug the pasvik wood, staying at the open cabins. In the evenings we gather around the camp fire. Perhaps we can meet one of the pasvik bears? 
  • The Schools hut by the sea: We go hiking, visit a fish farm, look at remains from ww2, and fish in the ocean. In the evenings we gather in the living room, playing cards and telling stories. 

The Varanger Fjord

At the end of the school year, the whole school travels around the Varanger Fjord. We join Hurtigruta to Vardø, and travel from there with bus. Finnmark and Varanger has a lot to offer, both nature and culture. The birds are coming back this time of year, and there is a good chance for exciting bird watching. Together we enjoy the spring in Varanger! 

Nord-kalottur i mørketida

Mandatory: Yes

I november ved inngangen til mørketid drar hele skolen på en rundreise hvor vi er innom ulike destinasjoner på Nord-kalotten. Ved Enaresjøen i Nord-Finland besøker vi Siida, et museum om samisk kultur. I Kautokeino får du sjansen til å gå innom den fantastiske sølvsmia Juhls, hvor både selve bygget og smykkene er verdt en titt. Vi besøker også Sametinget i Karasjok. 

I Alta får du to dager hvor du kan bruke fritiden til å gjøre ting du har savnet etter en høst i villmarka. Her kan du bade, shoppe og gå på kafé med mer. Vi besøker Alta museum-verdensarvsenteret for bergkunst og den omdiskuterte Nordlyskatedralen.  

Foreign students

Pasvik Folkehøgskole has a program for foreigners who want to explore life in Norway and learn Norwegian. You follow one of our main subjects and study Norwegian for 8 hours a week. We currently have students from the Netherlands, the U.S., Russia, the U.K. and Scandinavia.

The school

Our school has a climbing wall, a gym, a swimming pool, football fields, ski tracks and three saunas. We have a big dining hall, where students share their meals and a common area with a piano. We have several dorms, which have been renovated recently with single and double rooms. Outside the school there's plenty of opportunities for outdoor life, hunting and fishing. The school also has its own dog kennel with around 30 Alaskan huskies. In summer, we go canoeing and hiking, whereas in winter we go skiing, kiting, and ice fishing. One of the school's three saunas is located right next to the Pasvik river, so you get to watch the northern lights in winter during sauna and get to take ice baths.
